West Monroe pitcher Macy Nordstrom fired a two-hit shutout and struck out 10 Natchitoches Central batters Saturday as the Lady Rebels topped the Lady Chiefs 3-0 in an LHSAA Non-Select Division I quarterfinal softball playoff game at West Monroe.
West Monroe (25-9) delighted its homefield crowd as the Lady Rebels ended the Lady Chiefs’ season in the quarterfinal round for the second time in three years, and advanced to next weekend’s state tournament in Sulphur.
NCHS (30-6) managed only two singles. Nordstrom did not walk anyone and WMHS did not commit any errors. Lila Robertson’s fifth-inning, two-out single broke up Nordstrom’s bid for a perfect game. Maddie Robinson was hit by a pitch, giving the Lady Chiefs two baserunners, but Nordstrom notched a strikeout to escape the visitors’ only real scoring threat.
Breanna Hale singled to lead off the sixth inning for NCHS, but two strikeouts and a ground out prevented her from reaching scoring position.
West Monroe got on the board with a two-out RBI single in the fourth inning, then an inning later Nordstrom delivered a two-run, two-out single to make the margin 3-0.
NCHS pitcher Maddie Robinson allowed only six hits and struck out seven in the final outing of her remarkable high school career. The Lady Chiefs were also error-free.
