The Northwestern State University Volleyball team held its annual Spring Grassfest fundraiser Saturday, April 29 at the NSU tailgate area. The Spring Grassfest, along with one held in the fall, are the signature fundraisers for NSU Volleyball and a fun annual tradition in our community since 2010.
This year’s tournament is the largest yet, featuring a record 17 teams from around the area competing for bragging rights. When they were not battling on the court, players enjoyed crawfish and beverages donated by a local business. There was also a live and silent auction as well as several raffle items to choose from.
The Grassfest is held to finance projects and items for the team not covered by their budget, such as new equipment for practices and a few nice extras while on the road. This year’s Spring Grassfest is expected to raise over $9,000.00 to assist Demon Volleyball in achieving their goals.
Northwestern State University’s Volleyball team boasts a 100% graduation rate over the eight years of Coach Sean Kiracofe’s tenure. This year’s team grade point average is a solid 3.4. These young women are a success on, and off, the court!
