Middle schoolers learn about medical careers at Camp Fast Forward

Seventh and eighth grade students from Natchitoches Magnet, Provencal, NSU Middle Lab and St. Mary’s participated in Camp Fast Forward this week, an Area Health Education Center (AHEC) summer program funded by the Rapides Foundation and hosted by Northwestern State University to create awareness of careers in healthcare.  Students learned about nursing, first aid, ultrasound, sonography, anatomy, nutrition, basic life support, CPR, medicine administration and EMT/paramedic skills.  The last day of camp featured an air evacuation team and paramedics from Natchitoches Regional Medical Center who talked to students about the skills necessary to work in emergency medical transportation.  On the front row from left are Brian Morris, Scott Stetson, McKenzie Horn, McKensey Pittman, Malaya Osby, Ethel Marie Guidry, Mia Hollier, Journey Ashlock, Klarissa Cedars and NSU student Carleigh Lofton.
