The Natchitoches National Fish Hatchery’s Aquarium is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, July 5 . The 57-year-old aquarium recently received a long overdue overhaul. The majority of the work was to replace roof, install new electrical and all new HVAC system. The US Fish and Wildlife Service funded the project through a Deferred Maintenance program. Other upgrades include a back-up generator and dehumidifiers to reduce moisture in the building. The project also restored some of the original architecture in the entrance that had been covered up by past temporary repairs.
“We appreciate the publics patience and we hope they enjoy the aquarium for many more years,” said Hatchery Manager Brett Hortman.
