Lane Status Update: Traffic pattern change on Hwy. 1 Bypass

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), advises the public that as of 9 AM on Aug. 21, a significant change in the traffic pattern through the construction zone took place on the LA 1 Bypass in Natchitoches Parish. The southbound lane will be opened to traffic from the intersection of LA 1 and LA 6 to the intersection of LA 1 and LA 1 Business, and the northbound lane will be closed to traffic from the intersection of LA 1 and LA 1 Business to 0.6 Miles from the intersection of LA 1 and LA 6. The northbound lanes adjacent to Natchitoches Central High School will remain open.

The intent of this project is to rubbelize the existing concrete pavement and overlay the rubbelized base with 6 inches of asphaltic concrete. Related work will include concrete pavement patching, class II base course, in-place cement treated base course, milling asphalt pavement, guardrail, plastic pavement striping, and other related work.

The contractor will maintain one way thru traffic in the southbound lane at all times, with the northbound lane being closed to traffic, with the exception of 0.6 Miles of the northbound lanes in the divided 4 lane section adjacent to Natchitoches Central High School. The public is advised to remain alert to construction signs and changing roadway conditions along LA 1.

The project was awarded to the low bidder, Gilchrist Construction Company, LLC, of Alexandria, LA in the amount of $6,641,470.41 and will take approximately 165 working days to complete.

Permit/Detour Section
Northbound traffic will be detoured north along LA 1 Business then north on LA 1223 then west on LA 6 then south on LA 1.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
