Natchitoches Police address false information that was posted on social media

The Natchitoches Police Department received a 911 call on Aug. 18 around 3:37 pm from 533 Second Street (Trinity Episcopal Church) in reference to an individual who had broken a window and attempted to gain entry into a preschool classroom. The caller was able to provide a description of the individual and that his last know direction of travel.
 
While officers were heading to 533 Second Street in an attempt to locate the suspect another 911 call was received at 3:41 p.m. The caller said that the individual had returned to the church and was banging on the doors. As officers arrived on scene at 3:43 p.m. they were told by Police Communication Officers that the suspect had left the church but was still in the area. Officers and deputies with the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office were able to locate the individual and detain him in front of the Central Fire Station on Second Street. At 3:44 p.m. officers requested an ambulance while Natchitoches Fire Department E.M.T.’s assessed the injuries that the suspect sustained while trying to enter the preschool building.
 
The suspect was transported to the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center at 3:58 p.m. with an officer on board the ambulance to be evaluated and treated.
 
The suspect, Lance Hebert (W/M, 32 y.o.a. of Natchitoches), was later released from the hospital and was transported to the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center where he is charged with attempted unauthorized entry of a place of business and simple criminal damage to property.
 
The Natchitoches Police Department wanted to address the false information posted on social media in regards to our officers’ response time to this incident. We pride ourselves in being totally transparent with the public and realize the distrust that malicious social media posts can create.
