Following a weekend in which she scored both of Northwestern State’s goals, Taylor Spitzer was rewarded by being named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Spitzer, a sophomore from Allen, Texas, scored two goals, one each against UIW and Texas A&M-Commerce, helping lead the Lady Demons (4-6 overall, 2-1 SLC) to a split in the two contests.
The sophomore scored in the first half against UIW, which stood as the lone goal of the match in a 1-0 win. She followed that up with an early goal against TAMUC, which gave NSU the first lead in a 2-1 road loss in Commerce.
Spitzer is the second NSU player to be honored by the conference, joining Libe Banuelos, who has a goalkeeper of the week award.
She has four of NSU’s eight goals on the season, which is tied for the most in the conference overall. Her two tallies in league play is tied for the tops in the conference.
After not finding the back of the net in her first four games, Spitzer has scored four in her past six.
Spitzer and the rest of the Lady Demons are back at home Friday evening against McNeese before hitting the road for three straight contests.
