Most commuters through Robeline will have noticed the demolition of the old plow horse store this past week. What I can excitedly tell you is that it is not just the removal of an abandoned building, but the beginning of turning the property into a clinic.
Sabine Medical Center purchased the property with the intention of building a 5,000 square foot clinic in Robeline. It will be called Robeline Express Care. While the name may sound like an urgent care clinic, it will be a rural health clinic. It will have twelve beds for one physician and two nurse practitioners to treat patients in. It will also have a lab for blood work and x-ray capabilities. Also, after the state certification period, they will have a pharmacy as well. The clinic is set tentatively to be up and running by the springtime and the pharmacy will come online three to six months after opening. It will be open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Cane River Homeschool group will hold a bake sale this Saturday, Sept. 30 starting at 8 a.m. at Apostolic Truth Tabernacle, located at 9086 Texas St. in Robeline. The funds raised will be used for the group to participate in Wreaths across America, a nonprofit organization founded to expand the annual wreath laying ceremony in Arlington National Cemetery into local communities to honor the fallen and those that served. The group sees it as an opportunity to teach children about community service and honoring others service to their community and country.
The next two weeks will be interesting as the Robeline Heritage Society gears up for our annual Heritage Festival on Oct. 6–7. The society is still accepting parade and vendor entries. You can pick up your forms at city hall or have one emailed to you by contacting cfreeman51989@yahoo.com. Festival shirts and merchandise are available in an online store at Fisher’s Sports. There will also be shirts for sale at the festival.
