Lane Closure Update: Hwy. 1 Bypass

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), advises the public that at 9 AM on Tuesday, Oct. 3 a significant change in the traffic pattern through the construction zone will occur on the LA 1 Bypass in Natchitoches Parish. The northbound lane will be opened to traffic from the intersection of LA 1 and LA 1 Business to the intersection of LA 1 and LA 6, and the southbound lane will be closed to traffic from the intersection of LA 1 and LA 1 Business to 0.6 Miles from the intersection of LA 1 and LA 6. The northbound and southbound lanes adjacent to Natchitoches Central High School will remain open.

The contractor will maintain one way thru traffic in the northbound lane at all times, with the southbound lane being closed to traffic, with the exception of 0.6 Miles of the southbound lanes in the divided 4 lane section adjacent to Natchitoches Central High School. This traffic shift will remain in place for approximately one week, at which time the contractor will open all lanes to traffic.

The intent of this project is to rubblize the existing concrete pavement and overlay the rubblized base with 6 inches of Asphaltic Concrete. Related work will include concrete pavement patching, class II base course, in-place cement treated base course, milling asphalt pavement, guardrail, plastic pavement striping, and other related work.

The public is advised to remain alert to construction signs and changing roadway conditions along LA 1.

The project was awarded to the low bidder, Gilchrist Construction Company, LLC, of Alexandria, LA in the amount of $6,641,470.41 and will take approximately 165 working days to complete.

Permit/Detour Section
Southbound traffic will be detoured east on LA 6 then south on LA 1223 then south on LA 1 Business then north on LA 1.
