NSU’s Seely named Southland Pitcher of the Week

Kenzie Seely continued the stellar start to her senior season this past week on the way to securing Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Making three more starts and five total appearances on the week for Northwestern State, the hard-throwing righty picked up two more wins, coming in two more complete game performances, where she held batters to an impressive .148 batting average across more than 18 innings of work.

Seely started the week with a two-hit shutout against Stephen F. Austin, her second shutout of the Lumberjacks this season, as the Demons picked up their first run-rule win of the year 8-0 in their home-opening game.

Seely allowed five total hits in 13.0 innings of work with 14 strikeouts in two starts this year against rival SFA this season.

In the Longhorn Invitational this past weekend, hosted by No. 2 ranked Texas, Seely threw her seventh complete game of the season allowing just two runs on two hits to Tarleton State as the Demons ran away with the 8-2 win in the first meeting all-time with the Texans.

Her only blemish on the week came against the second ranked team and offense in the nation in Texas. If not for a two-out double and throwing error she would have held the Horns to just two runs through the first three innings of the game. She tossed a perfect inning in relief against Penn State getting a strikeout and two easy outs to second base.

Seely held opponents, including Texas, to a .148 batting average for the week. Against teams not ranked No. 2 in the nation, batters hit a miniscule .106 against her this past week.

She currently leads the Southland in shutouts this season with two and ranks second in the league in wins and third in strikeouts, one behind teammate Maggie Darr for second. She ranks 11th in the country in innings pitched with 62.0.

This is the first weekly conference award for Seely in her career.
