Natchitoches’ Fort St. Jean Baptiste hosted a unique combination of education and community service with their “Back in Time Cleanup” Saturday, April 6. Community volunteers joined the fort’s staff in picking up litter throughout the city’s Historic District. As they worked, the fort’s Interpretive Rangers pointed out historic landmarks along the way. The event was a wonderful way to combine history and community service.
Fort St. Jean Baptiste is a replica of a colonial era French fort that was built in 1979 near the original site. The replica was built using plans from the era and used many historic building methods. The fort’s staff are extremely knowledgeable about our area’s history. More importantly, they all share an enthusiasm for sharing their knowledge with visitors.
