Voting begins this Saturday at the Courthouse

Early Voting: 8am until 6pm at 200 Church Street, Natchitoches.

Runoff election early voting for the City of Natchitoches Council-at-Large position (and mayor, too) begins this Saturday, April 13. Registered voters will have seven opportunities over the course of an eight-day period, through Saturday the 20th, to vote.

People are busy. Schedules change. Something unexpected alters plans. Keeping that in mind, please consider going to the polls on one of the seven early voting days and not waiting until election day on April 27. Your vote is important! Thus, it may be prudent to avoid the chance of something interfering with the opportunity to vote on April 27 by being an early voter.

Every vote counts and with the ability to influence change and a bright future for Natchitoches, I respectfully ask for your support with the knowledge that as your councilman-at-large I will be visible and accessible; will know the issues and collaborate with the mayor and city council to address them; and will ensure that the feedback I’ve received while knocking on over 2,000 doors on the campaign trail will be heard loud and clear at city hall. I also remind voters that the three council-at-large challengers (including me) to the incumbent received 61 percent of the votes in the March 23 primary, which reflected sentiment for a new person to represent the people in that position.

The issues which concern the citizens of Natchitoches are well known:

• Crime must be addressed, and it will take everyone – the mayor, council, law enforcement and citizens – to make our city one in which current residents want to stay and to which prospective new residents want to move.
• The utility increase implemented in December, albeit it being partly designated for worthy police and fire fighter pay increases, is putting a strain on residents and especially those at the lower income level. The purpose for and the timing of this increase could have been better articulated to the citizens and with a second increase scheduled for next month, communication must be forthcoming as to why it should be implemented.
• Fix the roads (have noticed more road work of late), clean up the water and make economic development a priority.

It has been my goal to keep these columns brief so for more information, please log on to gregburke.net and click on the “What Greg Says Heading into The Runoff Election” red button at the top of the main page.

Again, please go to the polls starting this Saturday, April 13, at the Registrar of Voters Office in the Natchitoches Parish Courthouse on Church Street. When you do, I humbly ask that you cast your vote for Candidate #35, Greg Burke

Paid for by the campaign to elect Councilman-at-Large candidate Greg Burke.
