NCHS softball bows in first-round slugfest; St. Mary’s at home Tuesday

Natchitoches Central’s softball season ended Friday in the first round of the LHSAA Non-Select Division I playoffs despite the Lady Chiefs collecting 12 hits and scoring 11 runs.

Visiting Neville had more. The Lady Tigers prevailed, 17-11, blasting out to an 11-0 lead on the strength of an eight-run first inning.

The Lady Chiefs (18-13) climbed back in it with seven runs in their third inning, and were within 11-9 before Neville scored six more in the sixth inning.

Maggie Massia had three hits to lead NCHS, while Sydni Jones and Breanna Hale each added two, with Hale accounting for two RBI. Lila Robertson had a two-run homer for the Lady Chiefs.

St. Mary’s had a first-round bye in the Select Division IV bracket. The sixth-seeded Lady Tigers are home Tuesday at 5 to meet 10th-seeded Central Private in a second-round matchup.
