Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested a south Louisiana man on a Lafayette Parish warrant and seized the partial frame of a dirt bike that could be stolen during a traffic stop near Natchitoches according to Sheriff Stuart Wright.
NPSO Patrol Operations Bureau deputies were patrolling on University Parkway near Hwy. 3278 west of Natchitoches on June 10 around 8:44 pm when they stopped a blue pickup truck for a traffic violation.
Deputies identified the operator of the vehicle as Devin D. LaBorde, 27 of Arnaudville, on the border of St. Landry and St. Martin parishes.
A LSP Computer Drivers License Check revealed LaBorde’s drivers license was suspended. Deputy N. Kerby observed the partial frame of a Honda CRF dirt bike in the bed of the truck. Deputies say while speaking LaBorde and two passengers they learned the group traveled to Natchitoches to purchase the dirt bike frame to repair another dirt bike after observing it for sale on a social media site.
Deputies obtained permission to search for the dirt bike (VIN) Vehicle Identification Number. Deputies located the VIN but it was obliterated which prevented them from running it through the National Crime Information Center to check for a registered owner or stolen status.
Deputies also learned LaBorde was wanted by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office since October 2023 on an outstanding traffic warrant. LaBorde was placed arrest without incident, transported and booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center charged with being a Fugitive from Lafayette Parish, Driving under Suspension and other traffic charges.
The partial frame of the Honda CRF dirt bike was seized by deputies due to the obliterated vehicle identification number and transported to a holding garage at the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center until further review of the VIN could be done by detectives.
The investigation is active and ongoing by the NPSO Criminal Investigations Division. Involved in the arrest was Deputy N. Kerby assisted by Cpl. D. Halliburton and Lt. M. Powell. If you recognize the dirt bike pictured, contact Detective Sgt. J. Kilpatrick at 357-7830.
