Community invited to celebrate train depot’s 97th birthday with NPS

Cane River Creole National Historical Park invites you join us for a special event to celebrate the date the Texas & Pacific Railway Depot opened. On June 20, 1927, a crowd of about 5,000 people gathered for the dedication ceremony and grand opening of the depot.

The Cane River region has a rich tradition of community celebrations and gatherings. This FREE event will be held at the Depot from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Thursday, June 20. There will be train themed crafts, games, and activities for children of all ages. Earn your Junior Ranger Railroad Explorer Depot badge! Step back in time with free snacks that were popular in the 1920s (while supplies last).

In addition to the activities, participants will have the opportunity to review and comment on drafts of new exhibits that are being created for the Depot Interpretive Center. National parks tell the stories, even the difficult ones, of powerful places, important people, and pivotal moments that helped define America. These are stories of struggle, inspiration, celebration, and pain. The park along with the Cane River National Heritage Area is working with community members to identify stories, memories, and messages that should be presented to visitors at the Depot. The Texas & Pacific Railway Depot is located at Remembrance Way/ 7th Street, Natchitoches, Louisiana. For more information call 318-352-0383 ext. 316 or email CARI_Interp@nps.gov
