Demons place pair on Southland All-Academic Baseball Team

Reese Lipoma and Dawson Flowers enjoyed breakout seasons on the field during the 2024 Northwestern State baseball season.

What the pair did in the classroom throughout their careers was honored Friday as both earned their first Southland Conference All-Academic selections as voted by league coaches, sports information directors and academic staffs.

Lipoma, a redshirt junior who graduated magna cum laude in biology in May, was a first-team selection after leading Northwestern State in batting average (.312), hits (69), doubles (13), runs (56) and stolen bases (14) while starting all 55 games as NSU’s leadoff hitter and center fielder.

Lipoma is a three-time Southland Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection and finished his undergraduate studies with a 3.9 GPA. A product of Dutchtown High School, Lipoma extended the Demons’ run with a first-team member on the league’s all-academic team to five straight seasons.

Flowers, a native of Brookhaven, Mississippi, earned second-team honors after his first season as a starting pitcher.

A right-hander who completed his undergraduate degree in biology in May 2023, Flowers is pursuing a master’s degree in health and human performance and holds a 4.0 GPA in graduate school. A three-year Demon letterman, Flowers led NSU in innings pitched (65 2-3) and tied for the team lead in wins (4) while making 13 starts in his final season.

He was named the top graduate assistant in the school of Health and Human Performance for the 2023-24 academic year.
