Golf and Football – a Winning Combination for NCHS!

NCHS’ NC Victory Club held a Golf Scramble fundraiser Saturday, July 13 at the Northwestern Hills Golf Course. Eighty golfers in 20 teams set out for a fun day of competition. Some of the holes featured creative interpretations of golfing rules, including one at which the golfer could choose to use a baseball bat in lieu of a golf club to tee off, a surprisingly effective way to get the ball to the green. After working up an appetite on the course, the golfers enjoyed a jambalaya lunch prepared by iconic local chef Lane Miller, assisted by Coach Kyle Woods.

The scramble was a good time for a good cause. The 100 plus young men of Chiefs football have been hard at work under Coach Brad Laird. Coach Laird is in his first year at the helm of the Chiefs after serving as head coach of the NSU Demons for six seasons and the Ruston High Bearcats for 4 seasons. He brings a wealth of leadership experience at the College and high school levels and has hit the ground running.

The NCHS Chiefs will make their first home appearance on the gridiron in a scrimmage on August 23 against Pineville High School. Their first home game will be on September 13 against Evangel. These young men are well coached and are putting in the work. They are a class act that will represent our community well.

The Natchitoches Parish Journal extends its best wishes for a safe and victorious season. Go Chiefs!
