Recognizing 75 Years of Nursing Excellence at NSU

It is 1949. Harry S. Truman is the president of the United States and Earl K. Long the governor of Louisiana. The Dow Industrial Average hit a peak of a bit over 200 in June. That year also saw the recently renamed Northwestern State College graduate its first alumna with a four year nursing degree. That nurse sparked a superb 75 year record of excellence in not just nursing, but a variety of allied health disciplines.

Northwestern State University is a pioneer in the nursing field, hosting the oldest Bachelor of Nursing program of any state supported college in Louisiana as well as the state’s first Master’s degree in Nursing program. NSU is Louisiana’s largest, and arguably finest, producer of registered nurses, nurse practitioners and radiologic technologists.

NSU’s new president, retired supreme court justice James Genovese, celebrated that record of excellence during a visit with the faculty and students of NSU’s College of Nursing and School of Allied Health at the university’s Shreveport campus Tuesday, August 20. The visit in Shreveport was part of President Genovese’s efforts to meet with students and faculty in every area of the university. He will be making future stops in NSU’s campuses in Alexandria and Leesville.

NSU has a proven track record of providing life changing opportunities to young men and women who are willing to work hard. Come and be a part of something worthwhile!
