NCAA Championship participant. Southland Conference gold medalist.
Now former Northwestern State javelin thrower Ashley Aldredge Brooks can add Louisiana High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame Class of 2025 to her list of accomplishments.
She joins her father, Corwyn Aldredge Jr., as a member of the LHSAA Hall of Fame.
The 2025 Hall of Fame Banquet & Induction Ceremony will be held April 15, 2025, at 6 p.m.
Aldredge Brooks competed with NSU in 2012 and 2014-16, redshirting in 2013.
“It was so great to see her earn this honor,” Dr. Chris Maggio said. “First and foremost, she is very deserving. She is a Hall of Fame athlete. A Hall of Fame student. Just an outstanding student-athlete.
Prior to her time at NSU, she was one of the top high school javelin throwers in the nation.
Aldredge Brooks placed first at the Class A state meet in Louisiana in the javelin with a throw of 149-3, as well as competed at the USATF Junior Olympics, winning the meet with a throw of 140-08.
As a junior, Aldredge Brooks placed second at the USATF World Youth Trials with a throw of 152-04, as well as winning the USATF Junior Olympics with a 148-06 two months after winning the state title.
Her 158-05 mark at the Louisiana Governor’s Games ranked as the No. 2 throw in the nation.
As a sophomore, Aldredge Brooks won the state title with a throw of 156-0, which ranked as the seventh longest in the country.
She also made her mark immediately in the high school ranks, as she won her first state title her freshman year with a toss of 135-04.
She was nominated and recommended by Cedar Creek principal, Mrs. Connie Bradford.
Among other recommendations, she received one from Maggio, a former NSU track and field athlete and former NSU president.
“She put in hours and hours of work with her dad in the yard,” Maggio said. “She sacrificed so much to focus on her craft and being the best javelin thrower she could be.
“Not only did she compete on a local level, but also on a national level. It is so great to see her hard work paying off.”
As a junior and senior in 2015 and 2016, Aldredge Brooks finished 19th nationally both seasons at the NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships, throwing a 153-8 in 2015 and 157-8 in 2016.
Like she did in high school, she wasted little time making an impact as a freshman at NSU.
In that year, she won the javelin at five meets, including winning the gold medal at the SLC Championships.
She also posted her personal best as a freshman, tossing a 166-0 in front of the home crowd at the 2012 Leon Johnson Invitational.
Aldredge Brooks competed in the SLC Outdoor Championships three times, and claimed the gold medal all three times.
Her toss ranks third in program history.
Overall, she has two of the four best throws in the javelin in school history as well as four of the top 10.
