Reaghan Thompson is pretty good at volleyball.
The two-time all-conference middle blocker for Northwestern State proved that once again on opening weekend by earning Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors following her first three matches in a new position.
The middle turned outside hitter was named to the Southern Miss Invitational All-Tournament Team after averaging 3.3 kills, 3.25 digs and 4.13 points per set across three four-set matches. She helped lead the team to a pair of wins against Southern and Jacksonville giving the Demons a 2-1 start to the season.
In her signature performance of the weekend, Thompson became the first Demon since 2019 to record 20 kills in a match with her career-high 21 against Southern. Not only did she snap the multi-year streak, she did it in a highly efficient manner with a .400 hitting percentage and a kill percentage of .600 on her 35 total swings.
The match was also the second straight of her two kill-dig double-doubles on the weekend, after a 12-kill, 15-dig opening match against Southern Miss. She had 11 digs to go with her 21 kills against the Jaguars, and for good measure, added five blocks.
She finished the weekend with a team-best 40 kills and produced 49.5 points in Northwestern’s three matches. Her 39 digs were tied for the second most on the team as she produced the first three double-digit dig matches of her career in her first three matches playing on the back row.
Thompson and the Demons host Jackson State in their home opener on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at Prather Coliseum.
