UPDATE: Compactor Station Open for Business

Natchitoches Parish Main Compactor Station (photo submitted by a taxpayer)

All is well in Natchitoches parish after a meeting of the minds was made as of 10:30 am Tuesday, September 3, 2024.

Original Article:

After the Natchitoches Parish Council passed an agenda item at its Aug. 19 meeting to extend the Parish’s contract for waste management services with its current contractor for three more years, Parish President John Salter did not sign the contract. Services ended at midnight on Aug. 31, but a source told the Journal that deliveries to the transfer site were being turned away as early as noon, the same day.

The Journal has also been told that “a guard” was stationed at the gate to the transfer site to turn people away.  We are still working to confirm this, as it’s currently a holiday.

What the Journal couldn’t confirm, as it was unable to make contact with Salter, it was the next steps are and how long residents will be without trash services before a solution is found.
