Police advise residents to prepare as bad weather approaches

The Natchitoches Police Department would like to urge residents to be prepared during extended power outages that may occur as a result of severe thunderstorms, high winds, hurricanes and other natural disasters.

Rain will increase across the Four State Region beginning as early as Tuesday and especially Wednesday into Thursday as Tropical Storm Francine makes landfall along the Gulf Coast. Two to four inches of rainfall, which could be heavy at times, will be possible across South Central Arkansas and much of Northeast and North Central Louisiana. This may result in a threat for flooding. In addition, gusty winds will be possible, and a couple of tornadoes cannot be ruled out, especially northeast and east of the center of Francine. The hazardous weather threat from Francine should end Thursday afternoon.

Residents should have the following items in case of an extended power outage:

Water, at least a three day supply and one gallon per person per day
Food, at least a three day supply of non-perishable, easy to prepare food
Flashlights and extra batteries
First aid kit
Any medications you may need
A full tank of gas in your vehicle
Cell phone with charger
Extra cash
A hard copy of emergency contact numbers
