Fry named SLC Goalkeeper of the Week

For the second consecutive week, a Northwestern State goalkeeper makes her mark among the conference.

This time, it is Kora Fry, who was named the Southland Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, the league announced on Sept. 10.

The weekly award comes on the heels of Libe Banuelos earning the honor a week ago.

Fry came in for Banuelos 37 minutes into the game Friday evening against Jackson State. She made three crucial saves to keep the shutout going, as the Demons rolled 4-0 and Fry contributed to the combined shutout.

But that wasn’t enough for Fry, as she did one better in the next game.

Making her first career start Sunday, she made four huge stops, including 1-on-1 saves, to post a solo shutout against Alabama A&M.

The three consecutive shutouts are the first time the Demons have done that since 2022.

Her seven saves ranks just outside the top 10 in conference play for saves on the season.

It is the first time since at least 2011 that multiple Northwestern State goalkeepers each earned SLC Goalkeeper of the Week during the same season.

The last time the Demons as a whole won multiple goalkeeper of the week awards was in 2022 when Chloe DeShazer earned multiple weekly awards.

Fry and Northwestern State return to the Demon Soccer Complex Thursday for a matchup against Tarleton State. That match begins a three-match homestand, which includes Senior Day on Sunday against Mississippi Valley State and the first conference game against Nicholls.
