Deputies arrest Campti man on drug charges

A traffic stop has led to the arrest of a Campti man that resulted in the seizure of illegal narcotics according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright.

NPSO Patrol Operations Bureau deputies were patrolling on Hwy. 6 East near Memory Lawn cemetery on Sept. 12 around 11:44 am when they stopped a 1997 Ford F-150 pickup truck for a traffic violation. Deputies identified the operator of the vehicle as 42-year-old Thomas Moore of Campti.

Deputies say while speaking with Moore they smelled a strong marijuana odor and he appeared nervous leading them to believe criminal activity existed. Deputies asked Moore if there were any illegal narcotics in the vehicle. He immediately reached into the ashtray, retrieving a partially smoked suspected marijuana cigar/blunt attempting to hand it to the deputy.

He then responded, “That’s all I have.”

Moore has a prior narcotics arrest history. A back-up unit responded to assist for officer safety. Deputies say Moore continued to act nervously responding that “everytime he gets stopped he goes to jail.”

A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of the partially burned suspected marijuana cigar/blunt, a cellophane bag containing a small amount of suspected marijuana, approximately 4-grams of suspected methamphetamine, and a glass smoking apparatus commonly used to illegal narcotics.

Moore was placed under arrest without incident.

As a result:
Thomas Moore, was transported and booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center charged with Possession of CDS I Marijuna, Possession of CDS II Methamphetamine-2nd of Subsequent Offenses, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and traffic offenses.

Moore remains in the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center. The seized narcotics will be submitted to the crime lab for narcotics analysis. Deputy D. Halliburton made the arrest assisted by Deputy N. Kerby.
