After his team posted an historic 64 points on the way to a 64-40 win over Many, scoring more points than it had in nearly seven years, St. Mary’s head football coach Kedrin Seastrunk was a little shocked.
“Did I expect to go in and score 64 points on them? Absolutely not,” said Seastrunk. “I wouldn’t think we’d score 64 points on anyone. We didn’t try. Everything just clicked. We prepared well and everything just worked. I give all the glory to God.
“But you best believe I’m trying to do it again.”
Seastrunk said everything worked in all phases of last week’s game. Sophomore John Paul Thibodaux rushed for more than 185 yards and two touchdowns against Many. Brady Childress also scored a pair of rushing touchdowns. Haiden Nelson scored one rushing touchdown and another receiving. Quarterback Braylon Normand ran for one and threw for another. And place kicker Carter Hogg was 7-of-7 on extra points and added a 22-yard field goal.
This week the Tigers (2-2) will face a tough test at St. Frederick’s. The Warriors (2-2) are coming off a 28-27 squeaker loss to Bastrop. The week before they escaped with a 15-14 win over powerful Jena.
“They’re solid,” Seastrunk said. “I’ve been watching film on them. They play so solid that you really can’t out-scheme them, you just have to out play them.”
LAKEVIEW: The pre-district schedule has been brutal for the Lakeview Gators, who dropped to 0-4 with a 56-0 loss to DeQuincy last week. The Gators have not yet scored.
This week the team will play host to Class 2A Avoyelles (1-3), who are coming off their first win — a 46-0 victory over Class 3A Buckeye.
Coach Lawrence Seawood said at least his team is adding up power points.
“Once we get to district we should be pretty good,” he said.
