The Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA) has begun a transcontinental convoy that started Oct. 1 on the Minnesota border. This convoy is comprised of over 30 vintage military vehicles and is traveling over 2500 miles to its final stop in New Orleans at the National World War II Museum.
This is the 8th convoy of its kind, but the first to travel on a north-south axis through the center of the country. Drivers are retracing the historic 1918 Jefferson Highway which will bring them to Natchitoches on Thursday, Oct. 24. Community members are asked to join these dedicated historians on the Natchitoches Riverbank Friday, Oct. 25 beginning at 8:30 am to see the vehicles, meet the drivers and learn more about their preservation efforts. Select vehicles will leave the riverbank before 5 pm to lead the Northwestern State University Homecoming Parade, which begins at Prather Coliseum at 5:30 pm.
Residents who live along the Jefferson Highway are encouraged to display American Flags and look for the convoy to come your way on the afternoon of Thursday, October 24th . A live tracker can be followed at mvpa.org/convoys.
