A strong second season of the Ian Brophy era earns three members of the All-Southland Conference teams, including a pair of members on the first team, the league announced on Nov. 4.
High-scoring attackers Taylor Spitzer and Emily Senatore earned first team honors while Jessica Spitzer was voted to the second after all being honored preseason as well.
It is the fourth time in the last five seasons that the Demons had two selected first team all-conference.
After earning a second team spot last season, Taylor Spitzer scored six goals and dished out four assists for 16 points, the second-highest total in the league this season to garner first team honors this time around.
She was named SLC Offensive Player of the Week following a weekend in which she recorded two goals and two assists in wins over Lamar and UTRGV.
Spitzer recorded points in seven of the 10 SLC games and her 10 goals involved in was tops in the SLC.
Her 18 overall points are a team high.
Senatore came up with timely goals for the Demons, none bigger than her goal in the 89th minute to earn a big victory at UIW. She also scored twice in the first 10 minutes after falling behind McNeese by a goal less than a minute into the game, leading Northwestern State to a 4-1 victory.
Those were three of her five goals, tied for the third-most in league play. Overall, she found the back of the net a team-high eight times.
Overall, she is second on the team with 17 points, scoring eight goals and giving out one helper.
Senatore was one of five sophomores to be selected to the first team.
Unlike Taylor, Jessica does most of her work defending the goal, rather than trying to score.
But she can do that too.
First off, she played every minute of every conference game for the second consecutive season. She was a big reason why the team posted six consecutive shutouts, including against Abilene Christian, Tarleton State and the SLC opener against Nicholls. Overall, the defense has recorded seven shutouts, also doing so against preseason favorite Lamar.
Offensively, she found her way into the scoring column as well, scoring twice during SLC play, both coming off of corner kicks.
She tallied the first one late in the first half to put some distance between the Demons and McNeese in the 4-1 win. Then, she scored again off a corner kick at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to extend the advantage to 2-0, which turned out to be the game winner.
Stephen F. Austin is the only other school to put multiple athletes on the first team, as the regular season champion put a whopping seven on the first team and eight overall.
The Demons’ three overall athletes on the two teams are third behind SFA’s eight, and UIW, which had four.
Kaydence Ramirez, whose 17 points during SLC play led the league, won conference player of the year.
SFA cleaned up on other superlatives, taking home freshman of the year (Alex Bayouth), coach of the year (Ben Williams), midfielder of the year (Ava Shannon) and defender of the year (Ella Morgan).
The Demons open their SLC Tournament at 1 p.m. on Tuesday when it takes on Southeastern Louisiana.
