St. Mary’s High School drama class has outdone themselves with their delightful production of “It Happened on Route 66″ by Todd Wallinger. The show, directed by the dedicated and experienced Mr. Michael Landry—who has taught at St. Mary’s for an impressive forty years—will be performed on November 12, 13, and 14 at 7 p.m. in the school gym. Tickets are a fantastic value at $5 for adults and just $2 for children, making it an affordable night out for families looking for quality entertainment.
The NPJ got a sneak peek of the play, which follows a quirky cast of characters as they navigate the iconic Route 66. The students’ enthusiasm and commitment to their roles is sure to draw laughter and applause. Their performances showcased impressive comedic timing, especially for young actors, as they tackled Wallinger’s witty and fast-paced dialogue. Each character was unique, and the students brought a wonderful range of personalities to the stage.
The staging and set design were cleverly assembled to capture the nostalgic feel of Route 66, with small, well-placed details that transported the audience back to a bygone era. Costumes played into the retro vibe, adding to the authenticity and setting the tone for each scene.
A big fan of drama himself, Mr. Landry explained how it gives them a chance to memorize lines, analyze a character, and present themselves to an audience. “These are important skills to have for jobs, job interviews. It’s important to be able to present yourself comfortably to an audience of one or one thousand,” he said. “The kids have worked very hard on this play.”
