The Natchitoches Lions Club recently heard from local organizers who have joined the efforts of the nationwide Peanut Butter and Jesus project. What began in Tipton, Georgia has now reached neighborhoods right here in Natchitoches.
Natchitoches organizers are only one of three in the state of Louisiana. After seeing groups form in the city of Covington and Jackson parish; Sonya Jones, Mark and Lynette Walsworth saw an opportunity to join forces and create a much-needed outreach program for the citizens of Natchitoches.
They go out into neighborhoods and communities in Natchitoches to plant seeds of kindness, compassion and Jesus. Volunteers collect peanut butter, apple jelly, sandwich bread, oatmeal creme pies, individual juice boxes, sandwich sized ziploc bags and paper lunch sacks. After collecting these items (or monetary donations to cover the expenses of listed items), they gather, make sandwiches and bag lunches to take into neighborhoods in Natchitoches.
With just a $100 donation per month, donors can sponsor a day of providing lunches, which includes the opportunity for volunteers to share a track, a testimony and prayer with anyone who wishes.
Anyone seeking to become involved as a volunteer, make a supply or monetary donation or to learn more about the Peanut Butter and Jesus Outreach program can contact organizers Mark and Lynette Walsworth at 318-609-8016.
