Krewe of The 9, Natchitoches’ newest Mardi Gras krewe, will debut with a second-line activity leading to the 2024 nationally known Natchitoches Christmas Festival on Saturday, Dec. 5 beginning at 4:45 pm. After a visit at the Texas and Pacific Railroad depot-honoring members (that are part of exterior displays) of the National Pan-Hellenic Council known also as the “Divine 9,” members of the organization will proceed to the historic district with an exciting second-line processional. The procession will include members of the constituent member organizations which unfolds the “Divine 9” and commonly called “niners (9ers).”
The procession will start at the west end of St. Denis Street, which is the apex of Remembrance Way and St. Denis Streets. The revelers will travel East on St. Denis to Fifth Street, then South on Fifth onto Church Street, East and North onto Third Street, and then West onto St. Denis, to terminate at the Texas and Pacific Railroad depot.
Revelers and the public will retire the activity period with a wine toast touting the new group, honoring the founding period of one of the “Divine 9” oldest fraternities (Alpha Phi Alpha) and the start of the Yule season.
