
The Parish of Natchitoches Office of Community Services (OCS) is overseeing the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). For targeted groups, those persons who are 60 years and older and/or with a disability may call (318) 357-2220 to schedule an appointment for the 2024/2025 LIHEAP assistance on Monday, Dec. 16 from 1-3 p.m.
All other interested households including those in the targeted groups may call (318) 357-2220 to schedule an appointment on Tuesday, Dec. 17 from 8-11 a.m.
The program is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services through the Louisiana Housing Corporation and Natchitoches (parish of) Office of Community Services. This program has been established to help qualified low-income Natchitoches parish homeowners and renters pay a po1tion of their primary heating costs.
This program is not designed to pay a l1ousehold’s total energy cost. The program ,vill provide supplemental assistance based on several factors. Those factors include total household income, household size, dwelling type, and type of heating fuel, among others. Funds are paid directly to utility companies and vendors. Applicants for LIHEAP services shall be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.
Information you will need (no exceptions):
• Proof of identity: Valid Louisiana driver’s license or Louisiana identification card of all household members 18 years of age or above
• Social Security cards for each household member.
• All check stubs from the previous 30 days for all employed household members (additional requirements for self-employment and no employment will apply) the household income for members aged 18 and older for the past 30 calendar days
• Proof of unearned income (Social Security, temporary Assistance for Needy Families (T ANF) Unemployment Insurance, Pension Funds, Disability, Rental Income, Current Worker Compensation, veteran benefit, Regular Contribution, SSI, etc.)
• Citizenship verification
• Vulnerability (Responsibility for the household energy account): i.e. lease agreement that displays the name of applicant and the service address.
• Utility bills for heating and cooling (no older than 30 days)
• Utility Allowance Confirmation, if applicable.
• Disability status verification, if applicable.
• Child support verification, if applicable.
• Food Stamp (SNAP) ceitification lettei· or printout, if applicable.
Applicants who are facing disconnect or have already been disconnected please contact OCS to schedule the Crisis appointment. To receive Crisis assistance the applicant must have a disconnect notice or past due bill. For customers needing emergency assistance (after hours or on weekends or holidays) clients are asked to call 211.
