Natchitoches Magnet School recently celebrated the creativity and talent of its 5th-8th grade artists during the December Art Student Showcase. The event highlighted the students’ hard work in creating stunning still life and abstract pieces, showcasing their artistic growth and collaborative skills.
The young artists explored various mediums and experimented with color schemes to bring their still life compositions to life. They began by designing their arrangements in Canva, a digital tool, and then used grayscale printouts to guide their color placement. This method allowed them to focus on detail and precision, resulting in visually striking artwork.
The showcase also featured a unique collaborative project where students worked in pairs to create abstract art inspired by emotions. Each pair drew an emotion from a jar and used iPads for image references to guide their designs. The twist? They had to keep their chosen emotion a secret, challenging their classmates to guess the emotion based solely on the artwork. This activity not only fostered teamwork but also encouraged creative interpretation.
The students concluded the showcase by presenting their projects to the class. They explained their creative processes, artistic choices, and the inspiration behind their work. This experience provided an opportunity to enhance their vocabulary and gain confidence in articulating their artistic visions.
The December Art Student Showcase was a testament to the talent and imagination of NMS students. Their efforts brought joy and inspiration to everyone who attended.
