A suspicious vehicle complaint on Jan. 10 led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle according to Sheriff Stuart Wright. NPSO Patrol Operations Bureau deputies responded to NATCOM 911 Center reports of a suspicious, white Jeep, parked behind a mobile home in the 5700 block of Hwy. 480 near Campti.
The caller and owner of the property did not recognize or see anyone around the vehicle.
Deputies arrived on scene a short while later. Deputies spoke with the complainant gathering information for an offense incident report. Deputies then checked the interior for occupants, however, the vehicle was unoccupied.
As the investigation progressed, deputies obtained the vehicle identification number and ran it through the National Crime Information Center for a possible registered owner.
Deputies then learned the white 2021 Jeep Cherokee, bearing a temporary paper license tag, had been reported stolen to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Texas in July of 2024.
The vehicle was confirmed stolen.
A local wrecker service was contacted to impound and store the vehicle at an undisclosed location for processing by NPSO Sheriff’s Detectives pending notification of the owner by Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
