First, it was All-Southland Conference. Now, it is All-Louisiana for a pair of members of the Northwestern State soccer team.
After being named First Team All-Southland Conference, Taylor Spitzer and Emily Senatore were named to the Louisiana Sports Writer’s All-Louisiana Team, announced on Jan. 18.
Spitzer, a junior from Allen, Texas, scored seven goals and dished out six assists for 20 points. Two of her goals were game-winners.
In addition to her seven goals and six assists in total, her six goals, four assists and 16 total points during league play all finished second in the conference. She scored the game-winner in the SLC Tournament quarterfinal game with a header in double overtime to defeat rival Southeastern Louisiana.
Spitzer recorded a goal and an assist in wins over Lamar and UTRGV, which earned her SLC Offensive Player of the Week honors. In her games against SLC competition, she recorded points in eight of the 12 games.
It is the second consecutive All-Louisiana honor for Spitzer, as she was named honorable mention in 2023.
A fellow first team member of the SLC, Senatore made a huge leap from her freshman to sophomore years, as she scored eight goals to earn that All-SLC First Team accolade.
Her eight goals were not only the most on the team but also tied for second in the conference in overall statistics.
Senatore scored one of the bigger goals of the season for the Demons, finding the back of the net in the 89th minute to break a tie to win at UIW.
Spitzer and Senatore were the top weapons for the Demons opposing defenses had to prepare for.
It is the first time in two seasons that Northwestern State received multiple members on the All-Louisiana team, as they match the pairing of Gracie Armstrong and Olivia Draguicevich, who were both honored following the 2022 season.
