The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Natchitoches Office of Emergency Preparedness issued an advisory to motorists, urging caution the night of Jan. 21 and during the early morning hours of Wednesday, Jan. 22 due to the potential formation of black ice on roadways.
Black ice is particularly dangerous because it is hard to detect, especially in low light conditions, and can make roads slippery and hazardous.
- Drivers are advised to:
- Slow down and reduce speed, especially on bridges, overpasses, and shaded areas where black ice is more likely to form.
- Leave extra space between your vehicle and others.
- Avoid sudden braking or sharp turns.
- Keep headlights on to increase visibility.
- Use caution when navigating through areas with water or melting ice, as refreezing can occur quickly as temperatures drop overnight.
- Stay alert, and if possible, avoid unnecessary travel during these high-risk times.
- Stay safe!
NWS forecasted low temperatures for Natchitoches Parish Tuesday night: 15 with a Freeze Warning in Effect.
