A Parish utility crew were dispatched early Tuesday morning, Jan. 22, to address a major water main break on Church Street, directly in front of the Courthouse. Water was reported surging through the concrete around 7:30 a.m. Crews quickly located the source, a split in a six-inch underground water main, and by 11 a.m., they had the area excavated and the break clamped off.
Following the repairs on Church Street, the crews immediately redirected their efforts to address a similar issue at the intersection of Second Street and Lafayette, where another six-inch water main had split.
These splits are occurring as the ground shifts as it freezes and thaws as the Natchitoches experiences below freezing temperatures. Residents are encouraged to report any water service interruptions or concerns to the local utility department.
