Gabe Firment issues statement regarding Campti Mill closure

I was very disappointed to hear that International Paper has decided to close it’s containerboard mill in Campti, LA. This devastating decision affects hundreds of hardworking employees, their families, and the broader community, creating economic uncertainty for many in Natchitoches Parish and surrounding parishes.

To assist displaced workers, the Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) is mobilizing resources to provide essential support, including:

Job Placement Assistance – Connecting workers with new employment opportunities.

Workforce Training & Reemployment Services – Helping individuals gain new skills and certifications.

Unemployment Insurance Benefits – Guidance on eligibility and application processes.

Career Counseling & Resume Assistance – Support in navigating the job market.

Workers impacted by the closure are encouraged to visit their nearest Louisiana Workforce Commission office or access resources online at http://www.laworks.net. LWC will also coordinate Rapid Response services to provide direct assistance to affected employees.

I urge all impacted workers to take advantage of these resources offered by the state. We are committed to ensuring that no one has to navigate this transition alone, and my office will continue to work tirelessly to bring economic opportunities back to our region.
