Robeline News: Successful bake sale, another set for Saturday

By Courtney Freeman

The bake sale for Sis. Buxton’s cancer treatment was a huge success. Over $1,200 was raised to help her during this trying time. We like to thank everyone who donated or bought sweets. So many people simply slowed down and handed in a donation to help out. It’s always beautiful to see a community come together to help out with a need.

The village held its monthly meeting this past Thursday. Byles gave an update on the Sabine clinic, tentatively it is still on schedule to be open sometime in the summer.

They’re currently in the process of getting their permits in order. They also have to inspect their building supplies that are on site.As someone missed the curve and drove into the site, running over some supplies. The highway access decision was also revoked so the entrance will be off of Cotton Gin St. But over all we’re hopeful it will all fall into place rather quickly.

The Mayor also introduced a proposition he had received from Swift fiber company. They wish to lease a spot to place a substation for their fiber network. The proposed lease agreement would be for $150 a month.

Meyer and Meyer also had a representative at the meeting to update the village on the sewer grant. A rate study has been completed and to cover the cost of the portion of the money awarded that is a low interest loan an increase was suggested by the bond commission of rural water. A public meeting will be held on Thursday, March 20 at 5:30 pm, before the normal monthly meeting. The public is invited to come and discuss the proposed increase and let their voices be heard.

The Heritage Society will be holding a bake sale this Saturday, March 8 at 8 a.m. in front of Shop-A-Lott in Robeline. All proceeds will go to preparation for this year’s festival. Raffle tickets for a $500 Nichols gift card will also be for sale.
