The Natchitoches City Council approved a proclamation at its March 24 meeting declaring April 2, 2025 as World Autism Day and April 2025 as Autism Awareness Month in the City of Natchitoches. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is the fastest-growing developmental disability in the United States, affecting 1 in 36 children and countless families nationwide. It’s an urgent public health concern that requires greater awareness, education, and resources to support individuals on the spectrum and their families.
There is currently no identified cause or cure for autism, but early intervention, therapy, and community support can make a significant difference in the lives of individuals with autism and their families.
The Mu Omega Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, in partnership with Healthy Blue Louisiana, will host Autism Awareness Day in the Park on Saturday, April 12. This community-centered event aims to raise awareness and provide support for individuals and families affected by autism while offering a day of fun, education, and connection.
The event will feature a variety of activities designed to engage participants of all ages. Highlights include:
- Refreshing Walk: Kick off the day with a community walk to promote awareness and unity.
- Food & Refreshments: Enjoy a selection of delicious treats.
- Games & Activities: Fun-filled games for attendees of all ages.
- Inspiring Speakers: Hear from guest speakers who are passionate about autism advocacy and education.
By participating in Autism Awareness Day in the Park, attendees will have the opportunity to show support, learn more about autism, and help foster a more inclusive community. The event is not only a celebration but also a chance to connect with others who share a commitment to raising awareness and supporting individuals with autism.
