The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested Eduardo Garibay, a registered sex offender, for failing to comply with Louisiana’s sex offender registration laws. Garibay, who had been residing in Natchitoches Parish for over a year, was required to register in Louisiana but failed to do so according to Sheriff Stuart Wright.
Garibay had maintained his registration in Texas but did not fulfill his legal obligation in Louisiana.
The NPSO Criminal Investigations Unit, along with deputies assigned to Sex Offender and Child Predator registration, launched an investigation in January 2025 after learning that Garibay was potentially living in the area without properly registering.
After a thorough investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Garibay for one count of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender under Louisiana law.
In addition to the arrest, a search warrant was executed at Garibay’s residence.
During the search, two firearms were discovered, one of which, a .357 Magnum Smith and Wesson Revolver, was found to have been reported as stolen by the Desoto Parish Sheriff’s Office. The second firearm, a .22 caliber Savage rifle, was determined to have been reported as lost through a Texas law enforcement agency. As a convicted felon, Garibay is prohibited from possessing firearms.
In response to the discovery of the stolen firearms and the illegal possession of firearms by a convicted felon, the NPSO secured an additional warrant for Garibay. He now faces charges for Illegal Possession of Stolen Firearm and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
On April 7 Garibay was located at his residence and taken into custody without incident by deputies from the NPSO Warrants and Patrol Division. He was subsequently transported to LaSalle Corrections and booked charged with 1-Count of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, 2-Counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of Certain Felonies and 1-Count of Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm.
The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office urges the public to report any information about non-compliant sex offenders. Tips can be submitted anonymously on the NPSO website at npsheriff.org.
