Violent Crimes Task Force seeks public assistance in unsolved homicide cases

The Natchitoches violent crimes task force is urging the community to assist in solving critical homicide investigations that have remained unresolved. We believe that public engagement will be essential in bringing justice to the victims and their families.

Laterrion Mitchell Homicide –  On Dec. 17, 2018, Laterrion Mitchell was fatally shot in 1100 block of Berry Avenue. We believe that the suspects involved are connected to a local gang, and we are asking those who may have heard conversations or seen suspicious activity to share that information with us. Your tips could be the missing piece that helps bring closure to this case.

Derrick Tatum – On Oct. 1, 2020, Derrick Tatum was shot while walking out of his residence in the 1500 block of Mandell Street during a drive-by-shooting.  In 2023 Tatum died as a result of the wounds he sustained in the shooting on Oct. 1, 2020.

Jay Tousant Homicide – On Aug. 6, 2022 Jay Tousant Jr. was gunned down in his vehicle that was parked outside of residence at the 900 block of Woodyard Drive.  Mr. Tousant attempted to flee but crashed his vehicle and was pronounced deceased on scene.

Marcus Sowell Homicide – Texas Street On Dec. 25, 2023, Marcus Sowell was tragically shot and killed on Texas Street in a crowed parking lot. Detectives have obtained video surveillance from the scene that captures key moments leading up to the incident. However, we are in urgent need of the public’s help to identify the shooter. If you recognize anyone in the footage or have any information related to this case, please come forward. Your anonymity is assured, and any detail, no matter how small, could be vital.

We understand that discussing gang-related activities may be sensitive, but we encourage anyone with information to step forward. You can remain anonymous, and your cooperation could help save lives and prevent further violence in our community.

Together, we can make our community safer and ensure that justice is served for Laterrion Mitchell, Derrick Tatum, Jay Tousant, Marcus Sowell, and their loved ones.
