Parish President Update: Garbage Disposal within the Parish

To the Residents of Natchitoches Parish,

As part of my commitment to keep you informed, as you know there is a proposal to handle garbage disposal within our parish instead of outsourcing the service. This plan could stretch taxpayer money and allow more funds to be used for highway road maintenance, benefiting our community. I have been discussing this plan since I took office and at every opportunity with anyone that would listen. Without the necessary equipment and agreements, the Parish garbage could pile up and become a public health issue very quickly.

Despite the clear benefits and the potential risks to public health and safety, the items I requested for discussion and approval were not added to this month’s agenda. These agenda items are for the necessary equipment and agreement to dispose of parish household garbage. This is where your voice matters. The agenda can be amended until 5:30 pm Thursday and posted for public notice.

Your involvement is crucial. If you support me in my efforts to reduce costs and direct savings toward road improvements while maintaining YOUR garbage services, I need your help! I ask you to attend the council meetings, contact your representatives, and engage in community discussions. The next Parish council meeting is Tuesday May 27 5:30 pm in room 211 of the Courthouse. Your voice can help ensure taxpayer funds are used wisely and in a way that best serves Natchitoches Parish. If the agenda is not amended by Thursday, the Parish council could by unanimous vote amend the agenda to include these items at the Tuesday meeting.

It is important to note that these items have no effect on the City of Natchitoches, as this plan strictly concerns parish waste management services outside the city limits. AGAIN, THE CITY OF NATCHITOCHES WILL NOT BE AFFECTED BY THIS EFFORT.

We remain committed to transparency and financial responsibility and will continue advocating for solutions that benefit our community. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
John Salter
Parish President
