
St. Mary’s Catholic School honored the achievements of the Class of 2025 during its 136th Commencement Ceremony, held on the evening of Sunday, May 18th, in the school gymnasium. The event marked a significant milestone for the twenty-three graduating seniors and was attended by Bishop Robert Marshall and Superintendent Sylvia Davis, representing the Catholic Diocese of Alexandria. Father Irion St. Romain, Chancellor, Principal Stephen Wren, along with the faculty and staff of St. Mary’s, also participated in the celebration.
Several distinguished awards were presented during the ceremony:
The American Legion Patriotism Award was presented to Peter Kautz by the Gordon Peters Post of Natchitoches, recognizing his exemplary patriotism, loyalty, and leadership.
The American Legion Auxiliary Award was given to Ainsley Armstrong for her commitment to Americanism, citizenship, and leadership.
The Louisiana Sheriff’s Honorary Membership Scholarship was awarded to Ainsley Armstrong, one of three recipients in Natchitoches Parish selected by Sheriff Stuart Wright.
The Mayor’s Award was presented to Ainsley Armstrong for outstanding leadership and community service to St. Mary’s, the City of Natchitoches, and the State of Louisiana.
The Superintendent’s Award was given to Brianna McConathy by Superintendent Sylvia Davis, recognizing her perseverance and determination to excel.
The John and Jason McCain Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Cailah Bush, who also received the Maggio Family Scholarship, both of which honor the families’ legacies and commitment to St. Mary’s.
Mr. and Miss SMS, the highest student honor awarded by the faculty and administration, were named as Peter Kautz and Ainsley Armstrong. The award recognizes students who exemplify integrity, courage, compassion, service, and humility.
The Bishop Martin Award was presented to Georgia Kate Philen. This award is given to a student who leads by example, maintains strong Catholic Christian values, and fully embraces the spiritual and academic foundation offered at St. Mary’s.
Class Valedictorian Peter Kautz reflected on the lessons learned, friendships formed, and values instilled during his time at St. Mary’s. As Valedictorian, Kautz earned the highest cumulative academic standing in the class while completing the most rigorous courses offered at the school. Georgia Kate Philen was recognized as the Salutatorian. Philen received this distinction for her outstanding academic performance and dedication throughout her high school career.
The evening was a joyful reflection of faith, achievement, and the enduring spirit of St. Mary’s. As the Class of 2025 prepares to take their next steps beyond the halls of St. Mary’s, they carry forward the traditions, values, and faith that have defined their journey.
