Law Enforcement, community support Special Olympics at LA Law Enforcement Torch Run

Natchitoches Parish law enforcement officers proudly joined local students, businesses, and Special Olympics athletes on May 21 for the Louisiana Law Enforcement Torch Run, a statewide initiative supporting Special Olympics Louisiana.

The event brought together officers from the Natchitoches Parish Law Enforcement agencies, representatives from RoyOMartin Plywood, students from St. Mary’s Catholic School and Natchitoches Central High School, and members of the community. Also in attendance was Laney Roberts, Development Manager for Special Olympics Louisiana.

The morning began with a brief ceremony along the scenic downtown riverbank, featuring the Pledge of Allegiance and the ceremonial lighting of the “Flame of Hope” torch. Participants then took to the streets, crossing the Church Street Bridge and continuing along Williams Avenue and Keyser Avenue before concluding the run south on Louisiana Highway 1. Along the way, early morning commuters and local businesses showed their support by honking and cheering for the runners.

“This event highlights the strong bond between law enforcement and our community,” said Captain Wendy Llorens. “With the support of Sheriff Stuart Wright, we are honored to support Louisiana Special Olympics, our local athletes in Natchitoches Parish, and Special Olympics athletes across the state.”

The “Flame of Hope” will continue it’s journey with other law enforcement agencies to Opening Ceremonies of the State Summer Games in Hammond next week.
