Natchitoches Fire Department wins top honors in ‘Battle of the Badges’ competition

The Natchitoches Farmers Market was the scene of a fierce battle for culinary supremacy on
Saturday, May 24. The Natchitoches Farmers Market, a popular local tradition, hosted the sixth
annual “Battle of the Badges” cookoff between the Natchitoches Fire and Police Departments.

The contest featured chefs from the two organizations cooking dishes using supplied meat and
items available at the farmers’ market. It was a hard-fought contest worthy of a hit cooking show
as firefighters and police officers worked furiously to complete their meal before the clock ran
out.

The judges had a hard time indeed picking a winner from the superbly cooked dishes with some
really creative presentations.  After considerable debate and extensive tasting, the judges named
the Natchitoches Fire Department as this year’s champion chefs.

The annual Battle of the Badges is just one of the many fun events that add to the Farmers
Market visitor experience. From entertainment, to community art projects and youth programs,
there are fun events each week.
