The NPJ learned that most likely an 8th Judicial District Public Defender Staff Attorney, James E. Calhoun, will be name the Interim Natchitoches Parish Public Defender.
On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, the NPJ went to the Natchitoches Parish Public Defender’s office located on 3rd Street in Natchitoches, Louisiana to speak with Mr. Calhoun. The office was locked and the “Natchitoches Parish Public Defender’s” sign out front had been removed.
At the time of publication, the NPJ was unaware of were the public defender’s office will move to.
A quick check of the Louisiana State Auditor’s site revealed that James E. Calhoun appears to have been a Staff Attorney in 2017 through December 31, 2024.
Brett Brunson held this position until midnight, June 30, 2025.
