While the fall election season may not yet be top of mind for most voters, Natchitoches Parish Clerk of Court David Stamey is reminding residents that an election is scheduled for Saturday, October 11. In addition to a parish-wide ballot item that will be announced in the coming weeks, two open elected positions will be filled through single-precinct races.
The Village of Ashland will hold a special election to fill an alderman seat, while the Village of Powhatan will elect a new Chief of Police. Both races will be limited to voters within their respective precincts.
Qualifying for these positions will take place at the Natchitoches Parish Clerk of Court’s office on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, July 9-11, from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. each day. Prospective candidates are encouraged to contact the office at 318-352-8152 with any questions about eligibility or the qualifying process.
Stamey, who has served as Clerk of Court for nine years, noted the importance of these part-time elected roles throughout the parish. From municipal leaders in the City of Natchitoches to smaller villages and rural communities, these officials play a vital role in maintaining local governance and public services.
Stamey expressed appreciation for those who choose to step up and serve, recognizing that while such positions may often go unacknowledged, they are critical to keeping communities functioning and connected.
