NJH Principal Announces new Boys’ Basketball Coaching Staff

Natchitoches Junior High School proudly introduces its new boys’ basketball coaching team for the upcoming season. The program will be led by Head Boys Basketball Coach Steve Evans, supported by Assistant Coaches Deus Désiré and Randol King. Together, they share a commitment to developing well-rounded student-athletes both on and off the court.

Steve Evans, who currently teaches Health & Physical Education at M.R. Weaver Elementary, will take on the role of Head Boys Basketball Coach at NJH. A former college basketball player, Evans earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from Louisiana Christian University and later completed his master’s degree in finance at LSU Shreveport. In 2023, he obtained his certification in health and physical education and now brings five years of teaching experience to his coaching role. Coach Evans aspires to build a program that emphasizes excellence as scholar-athletes and believes that coaching is about making a positive impact on students’ lives. Guided by his faith and devotion as a Christian family man, he aims to teach not only basketball fundamentals but also core values such as love, forgiveness, and respect.

The coaching staff also includes Coach Deus Désiré and Coach Randol King. Coach Désiré, a Pineville native and Northwestern State University alumnus, focuses on basic skills development and teamwork, along with instilling perseverance and a strong work ethic. Coach King, who grew up in Natchitoches and played as a guard at Natchitoches Central High School before advancing to collegiate basketball, brings eight years of teaching experience to the team. King earned his degree from Northwestern State University and a master’s degree in education from Grand Canyon University. Known for his dedication as an educator and commitment to his family, Coach King adds depth and leadership to the program.

Principal Bobby Benjamin expressed his excitement for the new coaching team and their broader impact on NJH students. “The educational community at Natchitoches Junior High School supports the presence of influential male leaders who serve as coaches and mentors,” Principal Benjamin said. “Athletes receive their player development from coaches while also learning to become future leaders who will guide their communities. Coach Evans, Coach Désiré, and Coach King bring guidance, character, and discipline, which will have lasting effects on our students — both in athletics and everyday life.”

The addition of this coaching team marks a new era of athletic excellence at Natchitoches Junior High, where students will not only grow in their athletic skills and academic knowledge but also build confidence and leadership for life beyond the court.
