Robeline News: Stray Cats

By Courtney Freeman

The Village Hall had some surprising guests Tuesday morning, July 29. Two kittens were found abandoned on the porch with food and water. While Robeline has many feral cats, these were easily handled and actually craved attention. I think this speaks to the need for a parish animal shelter like Sabine has. We have volunteer programs that are trying their best, but our parish needs a dedicated program with facilities too. I know from speaking with volunteers for Sabine that they are overwhelmed.

Because of the volume and lack of space many animals don’t get a chance or time to find a home. I know part of the reason is that, especially here on the parish line, many will get their Sabine neighbors just down the road to surrender an animal for them. I would also implore any pet owner to seek a program for aid if needed. But please have your animal spayed or neutered at the earliest availability. It really can help so much.

The Village did have their meeting last week and after normal financial reports were presented the council accepted the lawn care bid from Vercher lawn care for the next year.

The Heritage Society is looking for participants for Robeline’s Got Talent. The program would be held on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 5-7 pm during the festival before the main musical event.

Anyone interested in participating can contact France Walker 318-581-6480 or Courtney Stoker 318-602-8682.
