The prayers and pleadings, coaxing and cajoling from his own people went unheeded. Moreover, the Earl turned a deaf ear to the loving, caring and kind overtures of his consort on behalf of the loyal folks of the Earldom.
I think our country is in need of an Earl who is bold, courageous and secure enough to challenge the Countess to ride wearing only the cascading carmine hair through the legendary streets as an inducement for our dear leader to grant the Lady’s wishes for lessening the tax burden for her overtaxed country folks.
A person of poise and purpose, Lady Godiva took her husband at his word, and clip-clopped through the streets in order to alleviate the pain and misery, impoverishment and pauperization due to grievously imposed taxation on the honest and hardworking folks under her husband’s tyrannous rule.
That was a legendary tale from the 11th century England. The narrative of such portentous outcome could hardly take place during the 21st century America. Allegedly, there wasn’t a single lady with the cascading carmine hair similar to the lady of the legend in the tonsorial map of America. So, none is worthy of the legendary signature that dignified the compassionate character of Lady Godiva: “Ego Godiva Comitissa diu istud desideravi”, [I, The Countess Godiva, have desired this for a long time] Besides, none would dare commit such an act of love and sacrifice, which is tantamount to an utter folly, in the current vengeful atmosphere in America.
The soul of a Christian people is heaven borne on the wings of Laws and Love; the former lays the Judaic moral foundation for living (The Ten Commandments) whereas the latter sanctifies the human heart for loving (The Beatitudes).
And yet, I am afraid, Love is treated as a 4-letter word in the world of moral turpitude.
Alas, like in a bad dream, I espy the laurel of skulls looming on the political horizon. And it vexes my soul.
